Well-known New Zealand artist Michael Smither revisits two unfinished paintings and scores a lament for the Pike River miners.
The first painting is from a sketch in oils, after witnessing an invigorating event whilst strolling down the nearby beach at Otama. The second painting has a darker ancestry, based on a bloodthirsty legend from the town of Gubbio.
The music Michael wrote is for a poem penned by a friend.
